The Skincare Products That Saved My Skin

The changing seasons are beautiful, the leaves start turning orange and red in autumn, the rainy days of winter give you an excuse to have a few too many pyjama days, summer is filled with beaches and a very necessary amount of ice-cream and all the flowers start to bloom in spring. Sounds absolutely perfect in theory, but in reality it can wreak havoc on our skin. If your skins anything like mine it becomes a dry and oily mess.

I never used to have a proper skin care routine because frankly I was too broke to afford spending my last few dollars on a face mask when there was a cafe next door serving fresh pastries (don’t think that would’ve helped my skin much either). After working for a few months I decided enough was enough, my skin was looking like a glazed doughnut and a stale piece of bread all at the same time, so I treated myself to a few skin care products I had heard glowing reviews about and hoped that they would turn my skin around too.

It’s safe to say that I have found some absolute winners here and I couldn’t recommend them enough. Sure my skin still has those dreaded days where every blackhead decided to make a very visible appearance and those spots that feel like someone is repeatedly poking your face all day, but I’ve noticed a huge difference through using these products.

All the products mentioned will be listed at the bottom of the post.

The Cleansers & Cleansing Brush

I feel like skin care is the type of thing that people can justify spending a little more on because quality is king but there are so many affordable skin care products that work amazingly. Just like the Body Shops Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter, this stuff is AMAZING! I first tried it when I got given a sample in the store, I’d never had a makeup remover that actually worked but now I do and my life is oh so much better. I went through a few months where I was wearing waterproof mascara pretty regularly because I couldn’t push myself to buy another $20+ makeup product when I had one right there that looked good but was just a complete nightmare and a half to take off. No cleanser worked well and I was always without fail left with most if it still on. I thought there was no hope, until I tried this and it works like a dream. No intense scrubbing of your eyes until half your lashes are pulled out, hallelujah. If you can’t tell I adore this product quite a bit, plus you only need the tiniest amount to get your whole face clean so it will last for agesss. This is the perfect cleanser/makeup remover because its super gentle, and can be used as a pre-cleanse.

You know the whole hype about “double cleansing” that went around a while ago, it’s not ideal for people like me with sensitive combination skin. This is perfect as it removes your makeup and gently cleanses before going in for the more intense full face cleanse the second time. If you’re going to add anything to your Christmas wishlist this should be at the top for sure! For my second cleanse I use the Essano Rosehip Gentle Foaming Facial Cleanser, this is super cheap and works really well for ensuring every last spec of makeup is off without completely drying my skin out.

For Christmas last year my Cousin got me a facial cleansing brush, it came with a bunch of brush head attachments but I usually use the softest one so it’s not too harsh on my skin. This is really good at doing a deep cleanse however I don’t use it daily as I find that it can be a little too harsh, using it a few times a week works perfectly for me.

The Holy Grail Face Mask

My next holy grail product is another body shop one, it’s the Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask. I used to think that facemasks just made your skin feel a little softer and clean but I had pretty strong doubts that they were really worth it. This is more of a splurge for me at $35 Australian dollars, but so so worth it when you see the results. I first saw this when another blogger Maria J was raving about it on her story, I totally trust her opinion and so I went out and bought one for myself. The first time I used it I saw such a drastic difference in my skin, for the first time using a mask to be able to see a visible difference in my skin was incredible. It is amazing at removing blackheads and it is amazing for excoriating while you’re washing it off.

The Toner

I use the body shops Aloe Vera Calming Toner. I swear this isn’t a brand deal with the body shop I just genuinely love their products and they’re within my price range which is a huge bonus. This toner’s pretty straight forward, it’s not harsh its just a nice final cleansing step. I’ve been wanting to try the Pixi Glow Tonic but I’ll finish this one off first.

The Serum

The Ordinary was such a hyped up brand this year and I’m not ashamed that I fell into the trap and I found an amazing Serum for the under eyes. I have under eyes that look like I haven’t slept since 2003 and this serum brings me up to about 2014 so I’m going to take that as a strong win. It’s the Caffeine Solution and its only around $12 which for a serum is an absolute steal, most serums are upwards of $40 so I suggest you go and grab yourself one of these to battle the puffy under eyes this season.

As you may be able to tell I don’t have a moisturiser in this post, I haven’t found one that I love yet and didn’t see much point it talking about one that was only okay so if you have any moisturiser suggestions let me know!

I hope you enjoyed and maybe found a new product to treat yourself or someone else to.
