What Makes Me Click “Read More”

I love to spend a cozy Sunday reading through some of my fave bloggers new posts and there’s a few reasons why I continue to come back and click “read more”. I thought that today I would share a few things I think other bloggers are doing that personally make me want to keep on reading their posts week after week and hopefully give all you new bloggers some hints on how to keep people coming back for more of your *fab* content.

Add An Eye Catching Title

First you have to give people a reason to click and this is mostly through the title (&& photographs but more on that in a sec). I’m way more inclined to click on a post in the first place if the title catches my attention. So if you’re having a bit of a stress sesh trying to come up with titles I find its sometimes easier to write the post first and then think of a title or work with what you’ve already got and make it sound more catchy eg. Instead of calling my last post “Writing What I Want” I titled it “I Need to Stop Kidding Myself and Start Writing What I Actually Want to Write” it adds a little more detail and stands out more from other people’s posts.

Pay Attention To Your Photos

Photos are SOSO important for every blog post in my opinion. A lot of people will see the photo first then read the title and lastly go to the actual written content. Spend a little extra time getting the perfect shot to go with your post as it’ll add more interest to your post rather than it just being a whole bunch of words and it’ll help with promoting your posts on social media as you’ll have a photo to go along with your tweet/facebook post/instagram post etc. which will catch people’s eye as they’re busy scrolling.

Use a Font That’s Easy to Read

It’s always a better idea to save the fancy fonts for titles, blog headers etc. But for the blog post itself it’s best to choose a font that’s easy to read because there’s nothing worse than getting a headache from straining while trying to read a whole post of curly text. Keep people reading by making it as easy as possible for them to actually read your post.

Keep ’em Reading by Making it Interesting ASAP

I’m guilty of blabbing a little too much at the beginning of posts but I’m trying to get better at making the beginning of my posts more to the point and interesting. If someone gets bored reading the first paragraph the chances they click off before finishing are pretty high, so make it interesting and then go ahead a chat away after the readers are already wanting to hear more.

Write Like Yourself!!

This is above everything else by a mile. People will pick up on it if you’re not being yourself. Its easy to tell if someones genuine or they’re trying to be someone they’re not so just write what you want and write it how you want to write it and eventually more and more people will want to click on “read more” because they like reading what YOU write.
