Being A Teen Blogger

I’ve always loved spending my afternoons scrolling though some of my favourite bloggers new posts, I stopped watching trashy tv and instead chose to lie all cozy in bed and look at what people had been loving makeup wise or how they achieve their style. It became a way for me to de-stress, I think that’s why blogging has taken the world by storm these last few years, its personal & real, it feels as though you’re having a chat with a friend rather than watching someone read from a script (don’t get me wrong I can never fully turn away from tv shows, hello Netflix!). Now I’m sitting here writing on my own blog, I never thought I’d be the one on the other side of the blog yet here I am. The blogging world is huge and it keeps growing everyday, that leaves a lot of people wondering where they fit in, especially when it’s dominated by fabulous 20-somethings living in Pinterest worthy apartments while you’re sitting in your bedroom filled with school books and stress. But there’s room for everyone so don’t fret, and as for school.. well I can’t make that go away (unfortunately) but I have picked up a few ways on how to cope with it if you’re a teen blogger like me.

Back in september 2016 I just didn’t write, plain and simple. I had no clue where I wanted my blog to go, all the bloggers I followed wrote new posts multiple times a week and they were all perfect, why were mine so boring and uninspired? If you’ve felt like this you aren’t alone!! The dreaded blogging slump is often unavoidable *sigh*, my biggest piece of advice is to take a break, sure maybe my break went a few weeks too long but hey it wasn’t all bad, I’m still here now and I have so many exciting blog posts coming up!! Just please don’t give up, you’ll get out of it eventually and then you’ll remember why you started in the first place. I feel like this is why a lot of people start a blog, write a few posts and then just stop, but trust me just push past that awkward beginning phase where you’re photos look terrible (well at least mine did) and you don’t know what to write about and you’ll get over it, you can only get better with time! All the bloggers who have a perfect instagram theme and put up new and beautiful posts every week have been doing it for years, you’ll get there one day.

Okay I have to talk about it sooner or later.. school. Pretty much every teenager goes to school and any adult who says school is easy must live under a rock, school is stressful at the best of times. Then you add a blog to the mix and it may seem like a recipe for disaster but trust me it is 100% possible to run a blog while you’re still in school. Sure I had to focus on managing my time better and procrastination can be a killer, but its possible. At first I found it a lot to handle which is probably why I was so terrible at consistently posting but I’m getting better. It’ll take time to figure out when’s the best time for you to write and how to cope with study and your blog. Take it one step at a time, if you can’t post one week because schools too hectic that’s fine just post when you can. Don’t push school to the side though, even though it can be difficult and often boring school is so important, don’t start blogging and forget about school, find a balance between the two and you’ll be fine.

The last and probably hardest thing about being a teen blogger is the fear of being judged. I kept my blog private from my friends for the first 7-ish months. I was scared, not of what they’d say, more of what they’d think, would they think it was weird? In a way I liked not telling everyone straight away, I got to figure out my place in the blogging community and designed my blog so it was exactly how I wanted it to be. Eventually it got annoying having to keep it quiet so one night I decided to tell them, sure I was a little nervous but I had absolutely nothing to worry about, they were all amazing and so supportive of everything, it made me realise even more how lucky I am to have such amazing friends!! If any of you are reading this thank you again for how beautiful you all are!! I know it’s scary to put yourself out there but don’t let the fear of being judged stop you from even trying, a few people’s nasty comments will be insignificant when you’ve got people all around the world telling you how brill you are. To quote one of the best movies from the 2000’s “Don’t let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game” ahh I want to watch A Cinderella Story now!

There’s so much more I could say but I won’t bore you any longer. I do hope you feel a little more reassured if you’re a teenager and want to start a blog, as I said before there’s a space for everyone you just need to try it out to see where you fit in. Good luck girls x

I relate to everything you’ve said! And recently a friend from primary found my blog through twitter and she was so lovely about it. I was scared when she first messaged me. But I think I might wait later on before I tell my friends that I have now.

    Lovely post as always x

I really loved this post! I’m so worried about being judged by my friends, only my best friend knows about my blog. I am also guilty of leaving my school work in favour of blogging, I just enjoy it so much more! I find it so hard to find my places in the blogging world because I don’t feel I’m a big enough blog to do anything and I blame this on the fact I’m a teen. Maybe it’s not! Anyway, thank you so much for this post, it perfectly summed up all my thoughts!

Really appreciate this post. I’m a student blogger and i’m finding it super difficult starting out and finding my niche and what I want to write about. I worry so much about people not responding to my posts etc. Reading this makes me realise that I need to blog for myself and not so much for others? Love your blog x

Exactly, it’s definitely hard to stay motivated when you feel like no one is reading but people will come trust me. And don’t stress about finding your niche, I only really knew what I wanted to focus writing about a few months ago so you’ll figure it out xx

I feel the same way about the whole friends situation! I’ve had my blog since August but I only told my friends about it last month as I was scared of what they would think, but when I did, they were so kind about it, I seriously don’t know what I was worrying about?!

Lovely post by the way!! xx
