Inside The Bridal Studio

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be able to go into an amazing wedding dress design studio, my Mum is a wedding hair stylist so she often works with the couple who owns the studio and single-handedly make each dress. When I was little I went along to one of the photo shoots; I watched as the gorgeous models posed in beautiful gowns with their hair and makeup done. I have always wanted to go back and experience it again now that I’m older and luckily I had the opportunity.  While the girls was getting their hair and makeup done I got to have a look around the studio.

The space was lined with about eight to ten sewing machines, giant tables covered in rolls of lace, satin and many other fabrics, floor to ceiling cabinets were filled with all different things from head pieces to intricate lace details and so many beads you could actually open a successful bead store. There were racks of gowns in protective bags along the walls and many dresses pinned onto mannequins in the process of being finished.

I’ve always loved sewing. I would go over to my Nana’s every Tuesday when I was younger and she and I would make something together, whether that be a little doll or a teddy for my baby brother. Then as I went into high school I did a class on sewing and am now doing a Textiles Certificate Class everyday of the week. I have my Nana to thank for my love of designing and sewing, and I know she would have been just as excited as me walking into sewers heaven.

Every single detail on each dress has a purpose, not one bead is out-of-place. I was left wondering how someone can have the sheer patience to first cater for sometimes crazy I mean “demanding” brides (assuming that brides act like Tess from 27 Dresses haha) and then put hours, weeks and often months into creating one perfect dress. I would love to one day walk down the aisle wearing a gown made by them but alas I doubt my bank account will manage (I better start saving now).

I had such a wonderful day and it really opened my eyes to the world of designing and sewing. I hope you enjoyed this little insight into a bridal store/studio. This post was a little bit different but I really loved writing about it and sharing my experience with you.

Love Sophie xx

Oh my 😍 I love anything that has to do with weddings, everything is soooo pretty. Your mom has an awesome job, kinda reminds me of the one bit in the Parent Trap with the mom taking one of her twins to her wedding dress studio (I think lol). And also your pictures are so beautiful!!!

That sounds wonderful! My Aunty owns a very successful wedding dress shop and I was lucky enough to work there for a week on work experience, I got to see previews of designs from top designers for the next year and I remember it being so special! This sounds equally as wonderful and brought back some great memories!! xo
