10 Ways To Get Through A Bad Day


Everyone has bad days, whether it be because you got a lousy result on a test or just woke up in an off mood. Bad days suck, but it’s totally normal to have them. Just because its normal doesn’t mean I don’t want to get over it as soon as possible. Needless to say I’ve found a few tricks that seem to help me shake off the bad vibes and hopefully they’ll help some of you as well.

Just Breathe
Sometimes I find myself feeling really overwhelmed and almost like I’m trapped in a situation. If I just stop to close my eyes and breathe for a while I find that I firstly feel a lot calmer and also my head stops spinning in every direction allowing me to just relax and realise that I shouldn’t be so worried over little things.

Talk It Out
A lot of the time I turn to others to help me get through a bad day, whether it be chatting to my mum or facetiming a friend. If I talk about whats getting me down with someone else it’s like the burden has lifted off my chest and I don’t feel like I’m going through it alone anymore.

Focus On What You Have Done
Everyday you do at least one good thing, whether it be giving your pet some love and attention or writing a nice comment on someone’s blog. Instead of focusing on whats going wrong which will only make your day worse, focus on what you’ve achieved.

Zone Out
I love blogging and watching youtube videos, it’s a way I like to switch off from the world and just take time to enjoy and relax. Often it’s whats happening in the real world that’s stressing me out and making my day worse so switching online can give me a little escape from reality. The blogging community is so positive and lovely that whenever I read through comments people leave me or read others posts I always feel so much happier.

Get Perspective
Having a bad day can feel like I’m trapped in a bubble and all I can see is whats going wrong, this makes the problems seem a lot bigger than they actually are. If you take a step back and look at the bigger picture you’ll see how small your problems are, it will also make it seem a lot easier to get through the bad day you’re having.

Don’t Compare Yourself To Others
While it may seem that the girl walking down the street with perfect winged eyeliner and a killer pair of heels on has her life together while yours is falling apart the chances are she’s got something on her mind bringing her down as well. Comparing yourself or your lousy day to others is only going to make you feel worse. When you’re having a bad day focus on yourself and making it better, not others.

Do Something For Someone Else
Compliment that stranger on their coat, give some change to the needy, stack the dishwasher for your mum. Doing things for others will take your mind off your own bad day and in the end make you feel better for doing something nice for others. Brighten your day while brightening someone else’s, it’s a win win.

Dance Like A Crazy Person
Put your music on full blast a dance like you’ve never danced before!! This is guaranteed to make me feel better, I just run around while flailing my arms and legs in every which way, I can’t help but laugh at how silly I look but it definitely makes me feel better and gives a quick pick me up when I’m having a rough day.

Write A List
Getting everything down on paper stops it from spinning in your mind. When ever I feel really overwhelmed by the amount of work I need to get done I write a list, it’s an easy way to sort your thoughts out. In my head I always feel like I’ve got so much to get done that it’s impossible to do it all, when I see it all written down it feels a lot easier to tackle.

Get Out Of The House
Obviously all your bad days aren’t going to happen at home but when I have a bad day and I’m at home I often find that I lock my self in my room and stay in bed all day, this only makes me feel worse. I try to at least do something around the house like go outside to play with Abbi or make some cookies. Even better go for a walk or go to a friend’s house, it’s a way to get out and shake off the bad feelings, being at home all day can feel unproductive and just stress you out even more.

I hope these tips helped some of you get through your bad day, remember today is just one day and it will pass. It’s totally normal to have bad days but not all of them will be like this.
